Last week, onย ๐๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ก ๐๐๐๐, Green Tech Cluster Latvia hosted the IH-MIE Regional Workshop, bringing together key stakeholders from public institutions, industry, and academia to discuss the development of hydrogen mobility in Latvia.
The online session gathered participants from public authorities, research, and industry, creating a focused platform for dialogue on Latviaโs hydrogen ecosystem and its future development pathways.
During the workshop, participants explored Latviaโs hydrogen mobility landscape through a structured discussion, addressing:
โข Limited and uncertain demand for hydrogen solutions
โข High investment costs and early-stage technology maturity
โข Gaps in infrastructure across the hydrogen value chain
โข Challenges in attracting financing and scaling pilot projects
โข The need for clearer regulatory frameworks and long-term policy signals
โข Workforce and ecosystem development requirements
A central conclusion emerged: the hydrogen ecosystem in Latvia is shaped by a reinforcing cycle betweenย demand, cost, and uncertainty. Limited demand discourages investment, high costs reduce competitiveness, and uncertainty delays decisions across the value chain.
Breaking this cycle will require targeted action across pilot project development, investment attraction, infrastructure deployment, and stronger alignment between public policy and market needs.
The discussion also highlighted Latviaโs strategic ambition to become aย regional hub for sustainable energy technologies, supported by national policy frameworks that position hydrogen as a key pillar for industrial decarbonisation and economic growth.
Building on these insights, the upcoming interregional online roundtable onย ๐๐ ๐๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐ย will focus on aligning challenges across regions, identifying synergies, and strengthening cooperation ahead of the IH-MIE demonstration phase.
